About the exhibition In the Shadow of Docility:
Taking its starting point in the exhibition title In the Shadow of Docility, 4 artists working in the photographic and videographic medium; Sarah Riisager, Noemi Kapusy, Fie Tanderup, and Maria Fynsk Norup, were invited to enter into a dialogue with the female poet Amanda Husum (Tankemyld.er) around the crucial role of art and the artist in casting a critical gaze on our contemporary moment.
A contemporary moment characterised by marked ideological polarisations. While progressive ideas seek to expand the boundaries of what is considered “normal”, neoconservative movements are (once again) attempting to roll back decades of progress by narrowing those same boundaries. Ways of thinking, ways of being, and forms of (inter)action that only a few years ago were considered acceptable thus risk once again being viewed as deviant and subjected to attempts at normalization.
What unites all the invited artists is that they, across artistic expressions and generations, together create a critical voice; a visual rallying cry in a time of upheaval.
